Josef-Barbados Restaurant & Oyster Bar opened in October of 2005 by Josef Schwaiger and his wife, Cherri, a painter and professor of art.

The restaurant specializes in fresh seafood with over 15 fresh offerings nightly. Two types of fresh oysters & hand rolled sushi are served from the granite oyster bar. In addition to seafood are Euro-styled preparations of duck, rack of lamb and aged beef.

Austrian born chef, Josef Schwaiger, has been in the restaurant business for over 30 years. Raised in a skiing village outside of Vienna, Schwaiger started his formal training in European classic cuisine and catering management at the age of fifteen. Schwaiger worked all over the world (Austria, London, Germany, Switzerland, & Africa) until he finally settled in Barbados, which he has called home for over 20 years.

In addition to Josef-Barbados in Rockford, Schwaiger owns three restaurants in Barbados including his signature restaurant, Josef's, with it's tables perched dramatically over the Caribbean sea. This is his first restaurant in the United States.
